Defining "case consultation"

For those who haven't read earlier discussions, a case consultation is when someone wants an opinion on their specific situation from a mental health professional. Since I am the forum moderator standing in for Dr. Shapiro, that would be me.

We are tiresomely repetitious here about not being able to do case consultations because 1)we haven't got enough history and assessment, so really can't begin to safely comment, and 2) we can't necessarily respond fast enough or completely enough for people to come to depend on us.

Therefore, we draw a firm line around what we CAN do, which is to make general comments that answer a question in a way that may apply to many people, and refer people back to their therapists for diagnosis and treatment.

Thanks for understanding the limits of this medium.
