I have to disagree with you about marital therapy with couples involved in domestic violence. It is difficult if not impossible for the victim of the violence to be honest in the marital therapy session due to fear that she will be punished for sharing any problems in the relationship. From my experience in working with battered women, I have heard many stories which would suggest this is true. Most therapists with domestic violent men recommend therapy to stop the violence first and then if desired, marital counseling. I have been reading Beck's book on PRISONERS OF HATE which I believe correctly emphasizes difficulties in boundaries, intimacy abandonment versus engulfment and power/control issues rather than concentrating on anger management. Many men can be violent without anger.
