Also, when one says we "allow" the client to vent, this seems to imply that the alternative would be to "prevent" them from venting. Ideally in CT the therapist wouldn't be "allowing" or "preventing." Therapist and client would collaboratively decide on the agenda for the session. The decision regarding whether to spend some of the session venting would be made jointly.
