David Clark and colleagues conducted a randomized, placebo-controlled trial of CT versus Fluoxetine plus self-exposure in the treatment of social phobia. Sixty social phobics were randomly assigned to either 16 weeks of CT, 16 weeks of Fluoxetine plus self-exposure, or 16 weeks of placebo plus self-exposure. All three groups improved significantly on most measures but the CT group did significantly better post-treatment and at a 12-month follow-up. Clark, D.
