Anonymous person, You raise some valid points. However, you undercut your credibility by posting your comments anonymously and by stating opinions as facts. There are, indeed, important legal and ethical problems with on-line therapy. There are also a number of situations where on-line therapy could be valuable. For example, I have been contacted a number of times by individuals who live in remote locations and who have been unable to locate appropriate treatment in their area. There probably are ways to provide psychotherapeutic services online without placing the client at any greater risk than is the case on conventional psychotherapy. However, until the legal and ethical issues are resolved, any therapist who practices on-line therapy is placing himself or herself at risk.
