    enhancing self-report in assessment

    Hi,
After attending an in-house discussion on basic memory techniques for use with acquired brain injury clients, I began to wonder what techniques could be used in therapeutic sessions with clients. Particular during the assessment phase.

There are obviously issues with accuracy of self-report, but I'm wondering what sort of things clinicians generally do to enhance peoples recall, and overcome guardedness that may interfere with it.

The answers to this could be quite complex, but since I am currently working with alcohol and other drug clients at the assessment phase (one session) it is important to get accurate, important information using basic approaches.

It will be interesting to read people's experiences with this and what they have done to overcome such difficulties. We can only work with what people tell us after all, and asking the right questions is important!

    Regards,
    Jed
