You may find it useful to take a look at some of the writings about CT with Borderline Personality Disorder. I wouldn't presume to make that diagnosis on the basis of the limited information you've posted but it certainly sounds as though your client has some of the issues which often arise in therapy with borderline clients. Unfortunately, the treatment of BPD is too complex for me to summarize briefly here. I've written chapters that appear in Clinical Applications of Cognitive Therapy (Plenum, 1990) and in Cognitive Therapy of Personality Disorders (Guilford, 1990) and Mary Ann Layden and colleagues wrote a whole book on CT with BPD. Hopefully those writings will help you get unstuck. It sounds as though you and she have a good relationship and she has considerable potential to benefit from therapy.
