POSITIVE PSYCHOLOGY FUNDING AND OTHER OPPORTUNITIES Following are 8 current opportunities, awards and grants in Positive Psychology. Please distribute this announcement to graduate students and faculty at your school and beyond. Most of these opportunities are available to individuals in all social sciences. Details on each of these can be seen at: http://www.positivepsychology.org 1) Templeton Positive Psychology Prizes. These prizes are designed to recognize and encourage scientific excellence in the new field of Positive Psychology. There are 4 awards from $20,000 to $100,000. Candidates can be from any country or social science, and must be either under 40 or not more than 12 years past receiving their doctoral degree. The deadline is October 1, 2001. 2) Positive Psychology Young Scholars Grants. This program offers seed grants, up to $10,000 each, to support early-career psychologists as they develop innovative lines of research in Positive Psychology. Candidates can be from any country or social science, and there is no age limitation. Applications are accepted on a continuing basis. 3) VIA Strengths and Virtues Grants. This program provides seed grants, up to $10,000 each, for the empirical study of strengths and virtues. Applications are accepted on a continuing basis and anyone is eligible. 4) Positive Psychology Summer Institute 2002. Approximately 20 young scholars will be brought together with 4 to 6 senior scholars for a week-long training institute in an attractive location. The purpose of this institute is to foster high-quality research in Positive Psychology by providing support and mentoring for young researchers, as well as developing a network of young and senior scholars interested in Positive Psychology. Graduate students in doctoral programs, post-doctoral fellows, and first-year or second-year assistant professors in psychology or other social sciences are eligible to apply. Candidates can be from any country. The deadline is November 1, 2001. 5) Positive Psychology Teaching and Essay Awards. The goal of these awards is to promote the teaching and study of Positive Psychology in high schools and colleges. There are 6 awards from $200 to $1,000, for college teachers, and high school teachers and students. 6) Positive Psychology Summit 2001 in Washington, DC from October 5 through 7, 2001. Leading scholars from various fields will present research findings and offer workshops in Positive Psychology. The purpose of this conference is to advance research in Positive Psychology through dissemination, dialogue, and building collaboration. This summit is open to anyone, but space is limited, so first registered, first served. 7) Positive Psychology Summit 2002 in Budapest, Hungary from August 30 to September 2, 2002. In this first international congress in Positive Psychology, leading European and American scholars will present research findings and offer workshops. The purpose of this conference is to advance research in Positive Psychology through dissemination, dialogue, and building collaboration. This summit is open to anyone. 8) Templeton's Seligman Award for Outstanding Dissertation Research in Positive Psychology. $1,000 plus expenses to the APA convention will be awarded to a scholar who has completed a Ph.D. dissertation in the field of Positive Psychology.
