I presume that the socratic method mentioned is socratic questioning, sometimes referred to as inference chaining. This technique is used when addressing delusions and consists of asking the client, "if what they believe were to be true, what else must be true to support that belief". Another way of putting this is to ask, "if this is true what else does it infer about the world". This technique is refered to in the Kingdon and Turkington book mentioned elswhere on this site.
