I call it "waton individualism". It damned near destroyed me. That is, when I was a kid, merely 18, and a therapist maintained this,25 years ago. I needed love and connection, and she was following her dogmatic beliefs, dogmatically adhering to the convention that I needed to stand for myself, and separate myself from my friends and family. It destroyed my life. I still live with the consequences of it. It was little more than cultism.
