I dont know how to phrase this so its coming out how it comes out LOL that can be dangerous sometimes
Bennett Braun was the so called expert pioneer in MPD, he taught how to recognise MPD, treat it, had patients also speak and based an immense amount of his knowledge which was held to almost gospel standing on his experiences treating it. He set up the first units to treat it, started the ISDD and wrote books, majority of his knowledge coming from his so called expert experiences.
Now I believe he has had his license surrendered and expelled from American Psychiatric Association and sued by at least 4 of the patients he used as case studies and histories and such, one of them was an unprecidented 10 million dollar settlement what does one make of his so called expert pioneering work when the charges were knowingly misdiagnosing MPD? And he wasnt the only one considered ina field of experts taken to court over the same charge.
I mean he set the model along with Sybil and Eve from the three faces of Eve consequently her therapists later admitted they dont believe they have ever seen a real case of MPD and Sybil is now deemed a fraud based on apparent evidence.
Its as if these people have created a whole new dimention to something that really who wouldnt be skeptical of it. And the most interesting thing I have found on the internet is how well people seem to emmulate what has been written in other survivor books and movies. To get a diagnosis of DID one must have a break in association but everywhere you look in the virtual communitites online there is no break in association, theres no dissociation its more so one person orchestrating identites and I am aware of the concept of co-consciousness but wasnt that also once more so an awareness not a control as its often presented today?
I can not see how a person who can sit there and say hang on let me get smokey junior and then smokey junior runs off and gets someone else at a psychologists request or anyones request really can be given a diagnosis of DID. Perhaps there is a state between dissociation and association as in everyone has different roles with different identites your not the same person at work that you are at home with your children or in bed with your lover but they are all aspects associated to yourself as a whole and I feel this is how people are attempting to present DID at least online these days.
Doesnt dissociation call for seperate isnt that what it means, distinct seperate identites of the one person. I think and yes it is just my opinion but the internet has misconstrued something that is genuine and turned it into a mockery in many ways and also many of the people who have treated it and perhaps this is where the skeptism stems from in some aspects.
I can take someone give them a blood test and say look i cured AIDS because they dont have it but if they didnt have it in the first place I cant be credited with finding the cure for it so how much crediablilty is given to my surmations?
Perhaps if people started looking at it as DID not MPD we could get a much more real understanding of it. I read somewhere that DID should never be refered to as MPD again because of the misconceptions associated with the name and when you think about it MPD does conjure up thoughts of a person with other people living inside them while DID makes me think at least of someone with a dissociated sense of self.
