Thoughts of a confused parent… The way to “raise” kids is a broad topic with heated debate in every category. The vast amount of data out there is overwhelming and sadly contradictive. Case studies are often to narrow to truly support the biased conclusions of people in their chosen specialty. Scientific analysis of all categories of human behavior is doomed to be limited in scope and can only lead to more questions raised. The bigotry of parents today is fueled by a “social dysfunction” that has been in place for as long as history itself. To realize a state of normalcy, you must first DEFINE normal.
Without knowing what NORMAL is, it then becomes impossible to know where you truly stand.
I propose a system of analysis involving a statistical algorhythm, to be used in computing a scale of normalcy. This algorhythm would operate in a database of human conditions compiled from the cumulative events of all known recorded examples of human interaction.
Assuming a distributed database can be implemented through the internet and various intranets, the algorhythm could be applied to this dataset and from that one could arrive at better statistical models of predictable behavior. More importantly, scientist could arrive at what is the center of the soul. This is the absolute center of right and wrong in the conscience. Using all known events and the human role in those events as well as the social
reaction involved, the IDEA of what is NORMAL could be arrive at with mathematical precision.
This methodology will surely have many opponents and will undoubtedly cause much debate. I believe this would be a step in the right direction for all mankind. I do not believe this will be the be-all end-all of psychology but instead put it in the same circles as the other sciences.
