Counseling therapy

In counselling therapy how many maximum sessions a therapist may take of a patient,and which type of patients are valid to be applied this type of therapy?in the pakistan there are very rare chances to do practical work so what is the basic source to take the training of giving therapy to patients?
if any professional therapist can reply me better i will be glad.
