I suggest the book "Bodily Harm" by Karen Conterio and Wendy Lader. They describe an in-patient group tx plan specifically for clients who self injure. At the time the book was written they were conducting a study to determine the efficacy of the program. The results might have been published by now. An aspect of the program I really like is that clients are not allowed to tell "war stories" about self-injury in group to prevent who-can-top-this competition. One thing I don't like about the program is that they immediately discharge anyone who self injures during the program. It seems overly harsh to me. I understand expecting clients to committ to the program, but IMHO booting someone out after one slip is extreme. Change is hard, people backslide as they move forward.
Another good author, though he doesn't write specifically about group work, is Steven Levekron. He specializes in working with teens who self injure and/or have eating disorders.
