The truth is with yo-yo dieting, you end up screwing up your metabolism so that it becomes much harder to lose weight the next time, and easier to gain. Old anthropological survival trait, I imagine. Anyway, I feel with so many of these conditions, including those of a psychological base, that the most conservative approach is usually the best. so, all the more I agree with you that it boils down to basic health habits. Likewise, I feel I owe it to my clients to get them to help themselves before going to bigger sources, such as medications, or in the educational system, modifications and interventions. THe first thing I want to know about a student having academic difficulties is, is the student making a genuine (not superhuman) effort? If not, let's try some "interventions" such as contracting with the student, holding the student responsible for their own education process, and simply creating and promoting an environment conducive to learning. If those measures are in place, and the student given enough time to adjust, and it's still not working we'll talk about changing things. BUt prove it to me that the student/client is incapable of helping himself first. Give a man a fish and he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish and he eats for life.
