And as hard as it may seem to be, when your child is being defiant, you want to take your own anger completely out of the picture. You set the tone in these interactions. If you are angry, your child is sure to respond accordingly and up the ante. If you are calm, keep a low voice and follow through with consequences, your child will have nothing to respond to but their own frustration. Hang in there!!
