OOps missed the point!!
sorry i re-read again im always doing this!!
>Or perhaps it shows that we are capable of re-creating the proper conditions for attraction (and so on) through fantasy, even though they originally were biological signals. Cognitive theories can be built onto biological ones, they aren't neccessarily always competitive alternatives to explaining the same things.<
Net chat does seem to re-invent the fantasy element of our thought . thats kind of what im looking into can we understand the underlying implications given by the words alone or do we need to have emoticons /emotes to make the conentations clearer?
if we didnt then would we find as many people finding their " true love" online the right vacancy and so on?
without the use of emotive language online would small online virtual communities begin to exist? Would what we say have the same meanings? would we recognise where to start a conversation and where to end it? without the useage of Tone in our voices and without the visual cues how do we know when to take our turns in the online " conversation"? I even come across turntaking signals such as ers and ums in conversation in the chat rooms? now how is that explained? is it a automatic thing as in is it a cognitive thing or is it just a socail thing? do other chat sites use such emotive expressions aswell or is a cultural thing??????? Is internet chat a culture unto itself?
