Rather than a Master's in Psychology, which is largely research oriented, and then a Ph.D. is usually required to be licensed to counsel, have you considered a Master's in Counseling? To be a school counselor, you need a degree in education in most places, but for a mental health counselor's license, you can do it with a Master's, and the Graduate program is usually two years, rather than the four required for a master's in psych. Hope this doesn't come too late to help you with your decision.
