Hi Nataly and Seoidin It is also possible to do art therapy at Masters / Doctoral level at the Rand Afrikaans University (now the University of Johannesburg). The Masters is a general psychology course, but includes a module on the expressive therapies, taught by the irrepressible Dr Makgathi Mokwena. I am now concluding the first year of my doctorate, and my research topic and practical placements have both focussed on art and movement therapy. Unlike the States, where art therapy seems to be conducted by undergraduate-trained therapists, South Africa requires a Masters degree in psychology and registration with the Health Professionals Council. Art therapy may be conducted as a recreational activity by unregistered individuals, but is not claimable on medical aid or medical insurance schemes unless you are qualified, registered and have a practise number. Hope this helps Anni
