I, too, made a decision to get my art therapy degree after working in other fields, including education. I was 46 yo. when I graduated and had to leave 'home' to get an education. I worked in a hospital for two years and then took a leap of faith and went back to teaching art (I have a teaching license) in order to make the proper connections to start art therapy in the public schools (this was my original intention, even though I loved my hospital). It worked and I am now doing another program involving all of the arts in a professional theatre. It is shaky right now b/c of the cut backs, but I will give it my best. The directer of the theatre has a relationship with a theatre in Toranto. Don't know how strong. And, yes, my life experiences that led to this have been my best education. I now work with at-risk adolescents. You may want to tap into the educational connections you may have for some input.
Let me know how it is going.
