Whilst I empathize with you about wanting to use art as a therapeutic modality in your field doing art therapy without the appropriate qualifications can in fact be harmful. Doing art in itself can be therapeutic, but the psychodynamic aspect of processing the information needs a trained art therapist. Many people erroneously see art therapy as an adjunct decline and want to just tag it along with other modalities. To appreciate how trained art therapists may feel about others with out training doing 'art therapy' please imagine an art therapist without training trying to do substance abuse counseling. I sincerely suggest you look into ways of getting an art therapist hired in your organization or at least get involved in grant writing to pay for his/ her services as a consultant. Regards Hoda
