A Two Week International Art Therapy Collaboration
June 19 - 23 and June 26 - 30, 2000
Biella, Italy

This summer session is designed to bring together a select number of American participants with Italian art therapists, art therapy students, and related professionals in an intensive creative learning experience. Two courses in art therapy will be offered by our distinguished visiting faculty. The program will be held in the Palazzo La Marmora in the historic part of the town of Biella, located in the heart of northern Italy's Piemonte region.

June 19 - 23, 2000: Medical art therapy with adults:
creative approaches to integrative healthcare.

June 26 - 30, 2000: Group art therapy: group process made visible.

$650 for 3 credits

As each course is equivalent to 3 masters' level credits, certain universities will accord credit to matriculated students taking these courses. Both courses are taught in English with a translation in Italian.

Course I:
July 19 - 23, 2000. Medical art therapy with adults: creative approaches to integrative healthcare. Cathy A. Malchiodi, MA, ATR, LPAT, LPCC, REAT.
This course provides an overview of how medical art therapy complements the medical treatment of adults with physical or life-threatening illness. Topics to be covered include: how art making, imagery and the creative process can be used to reduce stress, manage symptoms and enhance recovery; an integral approach to healthcare through art as intervention; how art therapy is a "mind-body" therapy: medical art therapy approaches to trauma and loss; and how the contemporary fields of health psychology, complementary and integrative medicine, and arts medicine impact the practice of medical art therapy. The course will be supplemented by experiential activities, case material and videos to illustrate concepts and techniques.
