Hello! I'm a Licensed Social Worker in Ohio and have been researching the creative arts field over the past year and am convinced that this is what I want to do "when I grow up"
I am now trying to decide on the best path to follow to meet my future goals. I have considered a grad. degree in mental health counseling, art therapy, social work or expressive art therapy. I have a strong interest in working with children, a passion for writing and poetry, but I also love art. My experience in social work has convinced me that I need to continue in the counseling field in some compacity, and the idea of a more holistic approach sounds fascinating to me. My question is, what would you, as professionals already in the field, suggest I get as an advanced degree to be able to accomplish this goal?
I wondered if my current social work license would help me to attain a job, easier, if my degree is in art or expressive arts therapy. I understand that in Ohio an art therapist cannot be licensed by the state which hinders insurance billing for counseling services. Anyone from Ohio who would be willing to offer me some advice? Feel free to e-mail me at booklover4@ivillage.com
Thank you,
Susanne Jones, LSW
