Hi, to answer your question about UK trainings. There are four post-graduate courses currently in the Uk. University of Hertfordshire, University of London(Goldsmiths), University of Sheffield and Queen Margaret University College in Edinburgh. All are two year post-graduate diploma courses and lead to BAAT (British Association of Art Therapists) registration. The Edinburgh course can lead onto an MSc qualification and the Goldsmiths has a further MA option too. All courses have pluses and minuses, all will require you to demonstrate a basic knowledge of art therapy - so you know what you are going in for. All of them offer some sort of starter courses - Edinburgh has a three week summer school and also offers a year long part time foundation course as does Goldsmiths and sheffield has something at easter. All which are great to get more prepared. All of the courses require at least one years work experience in the caring fields - where traditionally art therapists end up working. If there is an art therapist working in Huddersfield in a local hospital, day centre or hospice I suggest you get in touch and maybe even see about volunteering. I would also suggest reading as much as you can about psychology, psychotherapy and psychoanalysis as much of the theortical part of the course will be based on these readings. The youngest person on the course I am on at the moment is twenty three years old, I would say that the longer you leave it to do this training the better. You will find that your life experience will reward greatly you when you finally decide to return to study. Good Luck Kathy White
