In responding to your questions about entering the Creative Arts Therapy field at this point in your life, I do think that this is an exciting time for the profession. More people seem to be open to the idea of healing through the arts. In terms of private practice opportunities, my experience is that one needs to feel clinically competent before taking on such a responsibility, and that can take many years. It is usually helpful to first work in a variety of agencies, under excellent mentors. For each person, the time it takes to develop clinical insight will vary. If you already bring to the field decades of work and life experience, you certainly have an advantage. I was only 25 when I finished my Masters (15 years ago), so it took me many years to develop some "wisdom" (which I'm still working on). Best of luck in your endeavors. A last note: have you checked out any summer intensive programs or distance learning options which might make your adult life more managable? Laura S.
