My original question for my disseration was based on a quote from Erica Jong's 1973 essay The Housewife as Artist which ran first in MS magazine. She wrote that all people have writing talent but what is rare is the courage to go to the dark places where the talent takes you. Those words lived in me all this time and I at first wanted to explore how to get the courage to go to the dark places, being raised a white middle class Goodie2Shoes, mostly being "successful" in keeping my shadow side firmly in the "bag", to use Robert Bly's term. This is the heart of my own inquiry, related to but not simply the healing process, also the exploration and strengthening of my talent, so to speak. However, I have been working with a Jungian analysit for 18 months now--it is all related-- thanks for all the citations! This is so helpful *:) junebug gillam
