I'm interested in the therapeutic use of design in psychiatric rehabilitation. Peter.
The difference between design therapy and arts therapy it seems to me is that whereas art therapy is almost exclusively process orientated, design therapy aims to find a balance between the needs for self expression of the individual whilst requiring realistic connection with the material world outside the individual.
I'm doing an MA in Furniture Design and I work as a woodwork supervisor in a mental health rehab centre in Oxford, England.
I'd be very interested if you know of any similar work being done. So far I've found no reference to design as a therapeutic tool. I'd love to join your discussion forum and talk to some experienced creative arts therapists. Look forward to hearing from you.
