This may come a little late, but I did a research paper for a group therapy class. It was a group created for adolescents emphasizing just what you mentioned- social skills. It involved having the participants create characters with story lines, and have them put the story together. The drama was then rehearsed and refined, and the final product videotaped, so they had their own film. If I recall correctly, the authors of the original project approached it non-directively, in other words, letting the participants provide all the content.
