I am looking for information about art therapy, with particular interest to children 3-6. I am a teacher and have a child in my class who is extremely angry and doesn't know how to express it other than with violence. The parents are separated and Mum has been ill in hospital. The types of behaviour are punching, kicking, pinching, biting etc. This is directed mainly at me, and occasionally she may hit another child, but nothing worse than other children. The worrying aspect to me is the intent behind the violence. She will say such things as 'I am doing this because I know you don't like it". There seems to be sudden shifts of moods. One minute she is huggung you, and the next punching you. These 'outbursts' are often when she is being asked to do something she foesn't want ot do For example, join everyone in group session or listen to a story, or share a toy. A couple of people have mentioned art therapy and I was wondering whether it would be a worthwhile thought in this case.
Thanks
Karen
