I am interested in any information regarding the benefits of providing arts experiences and arts education to juveniles in detention. I'm particluarly referring to kids, ages 10 through 17, who have committed or are alleged to have committed delinquent acts and are placed by the courts in secure detention. I am the Program Director of a small facility and am quite interested in incorporating arts into the programming. However, my state arts council doesn't see the benefit of putting its funds into such a program, and I guess I am looking for some ammunition! Does anyone have any ideas of studies or articles, etc. which I might be able to use? I sincerely appreciate any help.
