I am an occupational therapy student with a background in psychology and creative writing. I am aiming to base my final year dissertation on the use, benefits and effectiveness of creative writing in mental health, specifically in occupational therapy. I have the opportunity this summer to carry out some creative writing work with people with chronic schizophrenia, and would be really grateful if anyone could direct me to any further research in the area of creative writing, whether general, or more specific to the area in which I'm interested. I am especially interested in qualitative research, based on the client's own perceptions of the effectiveness of creative writing as a therapy, however, I will probably also be evaluating this from the therapist's point of view in the improvement of client's functioning. Any views from occupational therapists who use creative writing would be particularly appreciated - I would be very interested to hear exactly how you use it in your work.
If anyone can help, my email address is: kmorris@coventry.ac.uk.
Many thanks
Kate Morris
