I am an art therapist working in an adolescent in-patient, short term psychiatric hospital. I have recently begun to use more structured materials to by-pass some of the resistance and anxiety as well as provide additional containment. One of the materials I've have added is stamps. I have a fairly large collection of stamps, single images (flowers, leafs, hearts, etc.) and stamp sets that together can create scenes, communities, stories etc. My original avoidance of these, particularly the sets, were that they seemed to be all "nice". Sweet little families,
fireplaces, etc. which would in no way reflect my patients' home lives. I soon discovered that, as with most other materials, patients will use them to reflect themselves. I
began to see the fire stamp setting fire to the garbage can
stamp, or freehand drawn houses. I have found this to be quite excititing and am wondering .....
1. Is there anyone else out there using stamps?
2. Is there any published material about stamp art and or stamp art in therapy?
3. Is there any one interested in discussing this material?
