I have just graduated from college in an unrelated field, and I'm going to Nicaragua for eight months in order to volunteer with a shelter for battered women and children. I have volunteered with rape crisis centers and domestic violence shelters for the past three years. I have worked at the Nicaragua shelter previously. I used art in order to conduct group sessions for the adult and children groups. The simplest activities were very successful in providing group cohesiveness. What suggestions do you offer for a layperson like me? Are there any sources of funding for these projects? The shelter doesn't even own a box of crayons, and my personal funds are extremely limited.
Thanks for your time, megan.
