Hi Marie Figured I write you a quick response to let you know you're not alone (and because you have a great last name).
I'm a relatively recent graduate from NYU (MA Art Therapy) and am now living outside of Denver, CO. I having a VERY difficult time finding work as an art therapist. No, the "ATR" is not well recognized in the area; in fact I have taken the alternative route and am pursuing the LPC instead. I'm a member of the Art Therapy Assoc. Of CO. (we have a web site if you feel like doing a search - brand new - sorry don't know the address off hand) Much of our topic of conversation in our ATAC meetings involves the frustration with job availability. You're not alone! Pursuing the LPC requires additional supervised hours by clinitians usually with little familiarity with art therapy. We've decided it's about compromise and creativity. Find something in the field to get a foot in the door and creatively work the art into the program. It's worked for some of us.
I'd be curious to know how things are going. If you'd like to respond you can get me at dlkr2@worldnet.att.net
Best of Luck~~ Doreen Lang
