The Issue of Media in Art and Art Therapy

Hi Everyone,

As a new user of the Internet, I was very exited last night to find a place to share ideas about art therapy! I am an artist and an art therapist. I work in a Learning Center and we take care of children with learning disabilities, and emotional problems. The idea is to let as many children as possible study in the community.

For many years I have been interested in the special spiritual significance each material and art media contributes to an art work. How does a certain material bridge between internal images and their external realisation. As an artist and as a therapist I came to some conclusions; I am quiet certain that it is not by coincidence a certain choice of media, paper format etc., was chosen at a certain time. Each material has its own spirit which it enhances as such. If we are tuned to the process we can actually see how the exact material was chosen. As I experience it, all the above said is true even for people who have no art education.

I am trying to find texts that deal with the issue of media as a whole, and not through one case study. Fiction literature can also be interesting. Can you help me? Thank you!
