I suggest to anyone interested in pursuing a career in art therapy to contact their local or national art therapy association for a list of accredited programs and registration information, because it varies from place to place. In terms of training, because one of the best ways to get a job in art therapy is through your practica placements, I strongly (very strongly) recommend you choose the training program that is nearest to where you plan to work, as long as it is acredited by your national association. To get the snail mail and internet addresses of the various associations and other information on art therapy, I suggest visiting Canadian art therapist Petrea Hansen's site at http://www.io.org/~phansen/index.html . I also suggest you contact the school you plan to attend and find out what specific prerequisites (probably you'll need more fine arts coursework than you presently have) you need and get them now. Good luck!
