Seeking reference for symbolism of tree drwg.

I am currently a graduate student in the occupational therapy program at Samuel Merritt College in Oakland, CA. As part of a class project for psychosocial dysfunction, a group of students will be leading demo art therapy groups. I participated in an activity at a fieldwork site in mental health in which each group member rendered a "tree" and the group discussed the symbolism. I am hoping to replicate this activity and need the reference to documentation on drawing a tree and what it can represent. Can anyone help me? Pschafir@aol.com thank you!
