Should I start with trauma from recent incidents af abuse?

I was wondering if it is best to start with stuff that I remember good that is from a long time ago or if I should start with something that is more recent like a year ago. What do you think Dr.Shapiro? I have been preparing for EMDR for a few weeks now and tonight starting 4:30 I am going to start. I was also wondering if everyone has been trained the same way, like does every therapist make their client have a "safe place" to go to in their mind? Is that relaxation imagery stuff all a part of emdr originally? I was also curious about if a person can do emdr on themself, with the bilateral tapping. Oh ya, if you could answer this in a language that a semi-smart high school kid could understand, I would appreciate it. It really hard to understand everything that is written on emdr because I don't know all those huge psychological and phisiology terms.

    Thanks Again.
