I have been reading and sometimes posting to this forum for almost eight months now and was surprised to read this statement that you wrote. "However, I have been informed that this forum is actually only for professionals" If this is true then I will honor that, but no where is this made clear to the nonprofessional(clients or potential client) who stumbles onto this site. Speaking as someone who is going through the process there is a need for a place for us to come and find answers to our questions. Not as a substutition for therapy but as an aide in that process. I have visited the chat room mentioned under "Fear" and it is a good area for anyone going through the process to visit. However it is nice to come to a site where professional and clients can also give us their input and further aide as in our healing; direct us to the proper places or people; and to help us form the proper question we need to ask of the specialist we are working with. I speak from personal experience on the value of EMDR. I am a strong advocate and encourage open dialogue so that others can see the value and hopefully have their life transformed as mine has been.
As a nonprofessional (client) I have gained alot of useful information from this site. Initially it aided me as I began the EMDR process with my therapist. I saw this site as a safe place to come to to ask that questions I needed to ask. Questions I could not ask my therapist because that level of trust and openness was still being formed. It helped me feel comfortable with the process. I have now established that level of trust and openess with my therapist and can ask the questions of them. However I still come here to read the stories of those going through the process or stories from professionals sharing how the process has been used in their work.
