There has been no research with this population. While there are numerous positive anecdotal reports, as I note in my 1995 text, this population should be approached with due caution. A physician's consultation should be sought and only an experienced EMDR clinician should attempt the treatment in order to make sure that any untoward effects are immediately evident. It is certainly possible that some form of brain damage would contraindicate treatment.
