I have a history of trauma and a few months ago had my first emdr session which didn't last long as I easily felt overwhelmed by the emotions and body memories which surfaced. Since then I have had 2 more emdr sessions, each lasting longer than the previous one. It seems that my therapist and I are moving very slowly through the phases of emdr, I am thankful for that but am wondering if the amount of time delay between emdr sessions is important. My therapist is not pushing me on this, the decision on using emdr during a session is in my hands. As I am focusing on one particular trauma, for emdr purposes, would it be more effective for me to try the emdr sessions in closer time periods? My therapist utilizes other techniques and we are addressing other issues in between the emdr sessions - such as staying grounded, focusing on what is happening in my body and informational/educational type sessions. I just think that it is taking me awfully long to get to a point where I can stay with an emdr session long enough for it to be effective and, then, there has been a least a month between each attempt at emdr. So, I guess I am wondering about the amount of time it takes to get through the phases, especially the initial ones, and if the time period between each emdr session is a significant factor???
