Thank you for your thoughtful comments and disclosure. Since you report that your diagnosis is DID, it seems that you, the writing part of the self, are likely the host, and the parts of the self behind the host have been doing most of the trauma work so far. Therapists often use this approach deliberately, because then the traumatic material is relatively detoxified by the time the host begins to do his/her processing. It makes it more systematic and planful. The host can keep "doing life" without being completely derailed by trauma processing. When the host is not present in consciousness during EMDR processing, it makes sense that s/he wouldn't be sure how s/he feels about EMDR. It also makes sense that other parts of the self, out of the host's awareness, would be solid supporters. That is because they have been holding the raw and unprocessed traumatic material in the years before processing, doing the actual EMDR processing and getting relief, are now freer of the toxic effects of trauma, and are feeling better overall once the entire self system is decompressed and detoxified. Although I can't be sure about the particulars of your treatment, speaking in general about EMDR and DID, once the parts are detoxified of the effects of trauma, the host can also begin to do his/her own processing, which often results in relatively rapid integration. Thank you again for you poignant note.
