Dear Cindy, Secondly - it sounds like your EMDR processing is incomplete. That happens sometimes, and it just means there is more work to do. If you think of it as half done, you may find it easier to handle. You know how when you boil an egg it keeps cooking after you take it out of the water? EMDR is like that too, it keeps cooking, but slower than during the actual EMDR session. If you go back and continue with more EMDR you may feel better sooner. As to whether the things you thought of during the EMDR are true or not -- I can't say, as I wasn't there. Sometimes it does happen though that people remember things they had set aside for a long time. As you process through some more you may be able to say for yourself whether you think you know what happened, or you may not completely know. The most important thing is that you feel better, and I think you will soon. When a therapist does EMDR, before you leave the office, they should prepare you for a safe drive home by having a closure procedure that you have practiced already. You might ask your therapist to save more time at the end of the session for that safe closure. Cindy, take care.
First- you need to tell your therapist right away about how much trouble you are having now. The information I provide here is general information designed for a large audience, and cannot be designed to provide the care you need and deserve - your therapist is there to do that for you.
