Dear Eric, I have been using EMDR in combination with other forms of sex therapy for a number of years and have found it very useful. Regarding Premature Ejaculation, as you may know, there are some standard techniques for the treatment for premature ejaculation that have been proven to be very effective. These include the 'squeeze technique' and the 'stop and start' technique. (See B. Zilbergeld's The New Male Sexuality for an excellent discussion of these techniques.) I have found EMDR to be very helpful in combination with these techniques in two areas. One, to resolve any painful memories that the person may have, i.e., times when he came more quickly then he wanted to and felt bad or was with a partner who was, shall we say, less than understanding. Two, I have also found EMDR to be very helpful in dealing with any anticipatory anxiety that may have developed as a result of previous problems. Sincerely, William M. Zangwill, Ph.D.
