    I think your hypotheses and observations are right on target. Shared intimacy tends to solidify a relationship, so it seems natural that people who meet online and are "honest" with each other (as a result of anonymity) eventually move to a face-to-face relationship. What's powerful about cyberspace is that it also maximizes the number of people you can come in contact with, so it's faster/easier to find people that you WANT to become involved with.
