Hi, all,
John, others, this looks like a good forum for my query. Be forwarned it will be lengthy. (Pardon my alias; Sunday morning spam necessitated my modifying my real email to prevent auto-harvest.)
I've been reading and posting to a particular ng regularly for a couple of months, but only occasionally before then. Recently, my online posting has taken a huge spike because I've joined other regular posters in trying to counteract actions of an individual who seems to be fixated on disrupting the ng. Out of almost 1100 messages he has posted to Usenet in about a year's, over 450 have been to my ng. Many have had an air authority for which he has no basis, yet he states them as fact and seldom as opinion. Requested to cite sources, he ignores most requests now, preferring, instead, to attempt to divert attention by claiming persection. Furthermore, in some of his reponses to apparent newbies, he often excises valid rebuttals from other posters in (imho) attempting to sound more authoritative or victimized.
As this is a general discussion, I think, I am posting only generalities. For those who wish to investigate further, please research me via dejanews to find my ng, then go there to see what much of the noise is about. (Before the aforementioned provocateur arrived, much of the postings reflected high quality of inquiries, replies, problem-questioning/solving, and the particular product boosterism. Sadly, now aforementioned individual and responders displace much of the conversation.
Aforementioned individual, I've discovered, actually has posted professionally and beneficially in certain other ngs where he DOES seem to have connections, albeit far fewer than in ours. I've wondered why he should seem so fixated in the one I frequent most. I've responded to him several times to seek professional help, for I believe his excessive posting is unusual. My occupation is that of a technical writer for a firm that creates clinical psychology software, so I feel I speak with some authority on my opinions.
Comments on the situation, please? Why does he do it? What recourses do we have? (He posts via non-company email.) How can we (or I) convince him to undergo an intake evaluation? Is there anything GENERAL that I should post in a follow-up here that I haven't addressed?
Wanda (My email address tells you what to do if you want to email me privately.)
