I'm a 14 year old boy from Singapore. I hope you don't mind me intruding in this interesting discussion, but I would like to contribute an idea. Cyberspace is an avenue for one's expression. Like a mask, it hides our personal defects such that we can be whatever we imagine and fantasize. No longer are we bound by society, its constrictions and values. Everything we do in cyberspace is masked and no matter what efforts we employ, nothing is "real". I know it sounds rather paranoic, but isn't it true? Chatrooms are filled with people assuming names and identities one would hardly hear at work or at school. Vulgarities and slander splash across the page. Pornography is rife in every dark corner of cyberspace. The anonymity, the freedom... The thrill of fulfilling one's desires without any consequences WHATSOEVER. Who knows? Your "angelic" children might be leading "secret lives" online. Lives you would never even dream of. A scary thought, I suppose. But true, nonetheless. Something I've been pondering over recently, could this be the start of the degradation of our society, our world? As cyberspace becomes more and more prevalent in our lives, what with electronic commerce and all, will we become a "faceless", moral-less, society?
