Thanks for your post, Siam. Audio-visual communication certainly is a fascinating new feature on the internet, and you describe that very well. I'm not sure it's better than text-based and asynchronous styles of communicating. But it IS more fully sensory and (for some people) offers a greater sense of "presence." Other styles of communicating have their advantages too. I believe some people have been writing about audio-visual communication, for example, CU-SeeMe... but I can't think of any specific articles off hand. Can anyone else recommend some readings to Siam? I know that people in the mental health community are talking and writing about "teleconferencing" as a form of psychotherapy. You might want to check out the new journal CyberPsychology and Behavior.
