This has nothing to do with adolescence -- except in the sense that feelings of immaturity know no age :) -- But one illustration in your article relates to something I've recently experienced -- the example of the father who found that he could use the internet with good results when communication with his daughter was strained.
My husband and I recently found what seems to be a constructive way to discuss that age-old marital stress inducer -- household finances. We found basically by accident that discussing money questions through e-mail while at our respective jobs seems to be much better than doing it face to face.
It seems to me that it has much to do with the fact that I often express myself more clearly in writing, but I think the main benefit comes from something which is often considered a drawback of typed communication -- lack of obvious emotion. The main thing that gets in the way of financial discussions is our individual emotional response to the situation at hand and that ends up causing more trouble than the topic of money. With e-mail, it's a much cleaner communication.
