I think too much can be made of the "lack" of audio-visual clues in CMC... Both real life conversation and text chat offer opportunities for honesty and truth, dishonesty and deception. How often do you have a conversation with three or four people for example and are surprised to find that A disliked B, though there were no obvious clues to that effect? It is the absence of prejudicial visual and audio traits that allows for better communication. That and the global nature of CMC are its real strengths

One final point about "threads" - and "loneliness" - to have no comment on your posting may lead to feelings of rejection and therefore to "moving on" to pastures new (and that is not a hint)
